About 6 years ago, photography finally began to have purpose. I had spent so much time shooting fashion, commercial and a few weddings but really couldn’t make sense of it all. I knew that I loved being a photographer, but I didn’t want to be cookie cutter. I didn’t want to be like everyone else.

One of my personal goals was to at some point and time photograph my pastors, Drs. Mike and Deedee Freeman. They are truly two of the most interesting and charismatic people that I know. I love their personalities, their heart for humanity and their sense of style. The opportunity presented itself in 2006 and I haven’t looked back. I have been fortunate to photograph them for many of their speaking engagements and for editorial work that has been published on several occasions.

Choices + Purpose

Like many others, with a new year you often find yourself pondering on things from the past and hopefully you are in a position to have a positive outlook on the future. I am no different. I recall my outlook on life and business prior to getting married and having children and I can say that now my focus is even more clear..

However I do find those times that I have asked myself questions and challenged myself as to maybe why I am doing certain things in business. Was it for money? Success? Fame? In 2012, the answer to these questions has evoked change… a change for the better. I have made a promise to myself to work with a purpose. This includes the assignments that we accept, the clients that we work with and the purpose of it all.

My ultimate goal in life is to spend time with my family and to do that I have to make the best decisions in a life that is choice driven.

Bridal Shoe Love

A focal point of most weddings happens to be the bride’s wedding dress. By far, much consideration is given to the style, designer and overall look of the dress however the shoes often mean just as much to the bride. Brides utilize shoes as a way to express their creativity and to show their personal style and flair. They also happen to be one of my favorite details to photograph during the time that the bride is getting ready.

Usually when I look back over the photographs, I realize that I have photographed the shoes in multiple locations and repositioned them about 5 or 6 times. To me, the shoes have a story of their own.

Billboard Feature in Richmond Virginia

Recently at a photo shoot in Richmond Virginia with Mountain of Blessings Christian Center, I was told some exciting news. A photograph from our previous shoot was featured on a billboard on I-95 not to far from the church. Dr. Bradley (the pastor) showed me the concept for the updated one that was about to go up but told me how to find the current showing. Once we wrapped the shoot, we headed out and located the billboard not to far away. We are grateful that this is the 5th time that we have had our work featured on a billboard.

When Images Move with Your Vision

There has been a pretty significant debate when it comes to still images and video/cinematography for weddings. I will say that I do believe that both compliment each other and help to tell a story in two different ways. It’s no secret that I love technology and some of the things that these companies do to create these incredible camera’s still leaves me speechless at times.

So I found myself wondering what I could do to visually tell the same story with video that I do with my photographs. On my last trip to Mexico to cover a wedding, I decided to put it to the test. This wedding was photographed at the beautiful Banyan Tree Mayakoba resort in Playa del Carmen Mexico. Here is a highlight video which tells the story of the day and how it unfolded. The couple had no idea, we were capturing video.

What makes these videos so special is that they are raw. Nothing is pre-arranged or discussed. Actually, the client has to trust the creative process which involves no direction from them when it comes to the capturing and editing process. Has Clark Bailey transitioned into cinematography? That’s a good question and I guess it depends on how you look at it. In the true sense of cinematography, I would say no. This service is tailored to a specific client. I would even say it fills the gap between photography and full blown video cinematography. It’s captures the moments for those that couldn’t be there and helps those who were there to re-live the experience. It makes the perfect add on companion to a client wedding collection.

Destination Happiness

Destination weddings are usually a reflection of the bride and groom’s personal style. Many couples select a destination wedding as opposed to a domestic wedding because there are several things that they will not have to deal with that usually come “standard” with having a wedding at home. Usually, the hotel or resort provides packages that include everything and anything that would be needed so the couple and their guest can just show up and really enjoy themselves.

When I photograph a destination wedding, it is a special experience. For a local wedding the only face to face time that is usually available to spend with the couple is the consultation, engagement session and the wedding day. On a destination wedding event, I enjoy the moments that allow me to spend time with the couple and their guests before the actual wedding day. When the wedding day actually arrives, I feel like I am photographing friends which make for fun relaxed photographs, and memories that last a lifetime.
